The seat and back rest of an office or like chair are each mounted with the interposition of a block &c. of material of a resilient nature such as sponge rubber. As shown, the pedestal 14 bears by means of a cap 15 against a block 6 of rubber which is housed in a housing 16 secured to the seat 20, an aperture 19 providing confining flanges 17 being provided. The back rest 11 is also carried on its support 3 by a similar block 6 and housing 5 through a mounting 1 having flanges 9 and being secured to the support 3 by a screw 2 and nut 4. In modifications the flange on the pedestal 14 may be arranged between two blocks of resilient material contained in the housing or the block may be secured within a sleeve attached to the seat an aperture being provided in the block for the reception of the end of the pedestal which is provided with a flange, bearing against the underside of the block. Fig. 6 shows a back rest 11 to which is bonded a block 6 the other face of which is bonded to a sleeve 24 slidable on the support 25 the sleeve having a clip 28 provided with a pin 27 adapted to enter any one of a series of apertures 26 on the support 25. |
