A motor drive device employs a motor 3 adjusted in terms of motor (winding) specifications, such that the sum of a loss in an inverter 4 or a group of bidirectional switches 8 and the product of a motor winding resistance in the motor 3 and the square of a motor effective electric-current value is minimized and, is preferably, is less than 1.1 times a minimum value thereof, within a predetermined motor-rotational-speed range, thereby suppressing the increase of the system loss due to the regenerated electric current, wherein the motor effective electric-current value varies along with the increase and decrease of a regeneration time interval which occurs around a zero cross of a single-phase AC power supply 1. |
