The invention relates to a load measuring device including a deformable component (10) configured to be deformed under a load to be measured and a sensor assembly (12) attached to a first portion of the deformable component (10). The sensor assembly (12) includes at least one acceleration sensor (14) configured to detect a change in an orientation of said first portion with regard to the direction of gravity (G). In practice, the load sensor may be in the form of a deformable cantilever having an accelerometer near the free end. Alternatively, two accelerometers may be placed on opposite ends of a torque bar. In another embodiment, an accelerometer forms part of a resiliently deformable seal in a bearing. The accelerometer may be a three-axis semi-conductor based sensor. A data processor calculates the load from the sensor signal. |
