<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively perform rote learning of entire text. <P>SOLUTION: An electronic dictionary 1 includes a flash ROM 80 for storing a character string, a CPU 20 for displaying the character string stored by the flash ROM 80 on the basis of user's operation, and a voice input part 60 for accepting an input of a character string from a user. The CPU 20 determines whether a display character string that has been displayed is matched with an input character string. When it is determined they are matched, the CPU 20 performs a hidden display by making a predetermined part of the display character string latent so as not to be viewed by the user.
