The present invention relates to an apparatus and method for discharging residual electric energy of a fuel cell, and more particularly to an apparatus and method for discharging residual electric energy of a fuel cell, which are capable of rapidly discharging residual electrical energy of a fuel cell for the sake of safety after stopping or upon detection of a collision immediately after driving of the fuel cell. For this purpose, the present invention provides an apparatus for discharging residual electric energy of a fuel cell, comprising: a discharging relay which is connected to a fuel cell and is turned on when an ignition is turned on/off or a collision sensor performs detection; a nonlinear protection element which is connected to the discharging relay to discharge residual electric energy from the fuel cell, and also provides a method for discharging residual electric energy of a fuel cell.
