[Also in Group XXXIV] A safety device for preventing over-running of the table 1 of a planing machine comprises a metal rod 5 with an enlarged tapered portion 8, which is drawn through a fixed die 6 and thereby deformed to provide a braking action in the event of the normal stroke of the table being exceeded. The rod 5 carries a member 4 which is engaged by an abutment 3 on the table 1 if the latter commences to over-run. Alternatively, the die-and-bar assembly may be mounted on the table and the member 3 on the bed of the machine. |
