The lens driver is part of an electronic system incorporated into the ophthalmic apparatus. The electronic system includes one or more batteries or other power sources, power management circuitry, one or more sensors, clock generation circuitry, control algorithms and circuitry, and lens driver circuitry. The lens driver circuitry includes one or more power sources, one or more high voltage generators and one or more switching circuits.

An ophthalmic apparatus comprising: an ophthalmic device configured for use in at least one of in or on the eye; an optic element incorporated into the ophthalmic device, the optic element having an electronically controlled focal length configurable for at least one of vision correction and vision enhancement; and an electronic system incorporated into the ophthalmic device, the electronic system comprises on or more power sources, a power management device for regulating the output of the one or more power sources, a system controller and a lens driver, the system controller receiving power from the power management device and providing control and timing signals thereto and receiving feedback signals from the lens driver, the lens driver receiving a regulated power output from the power management device and control and timing signals from the system controller, the lens driver comprising a voltage regulator, a charge pump to increase the voltage from the voltage regulator, an H-bridge circuit configured to control the voltage potential to the optic element, reverse the polarity of the voltage potential to the optic element and to ground the optic element, and a control device.
