PURPOSE:To obtain the title refractory excellent in spalling resistance, etc., by forming and calcining a blend comprising a magnesia-alumina spinel incorporated with each specified amount of titanium dioxide and fine alumina. CONSTITUTION:A blend of (A) 0.3-10wt.% of rutile- and/or anatase-type titanium dioxide, (B) 0.4-15wt.% of alumina <=100mum in average granular size and (C) the rest of magnesia-alumina spinel is formed and then calcined into the objective porous refractory. Furthermore, incorporation of <=10wt.% of at least one compound selected from those each having a cation: Si<4+>, Zr<4+>, Fe<3+>, Mg<2+>, Li<+>, Ni<2+> or Cr<3+> with its radius equal to or smaller than that of Ti<2+> will prevent the drop-off of the corrosion resistance of the present refractory due to titanium dioxide addition. |
