摘要 This invention provides an image processing apparatus which allows an operator to easily recognize relevance between morbid portions, which exist in a plurality of layers, according to a disease. An image processing apparatus according to this invention includes an ophthalmic feature acquisition unit which acquires ophthalmic features as anatomical features of the tomogram, a layer designation unit which designates at least two layers required to detect morbid portions corresponding to a disease of a predetermined type from a plurality of layers specified by the ophthalmic features, a morbid portion acquisition unit which detects morbid portions corresponding to the disease of the predetermined type respectively from the layers designated by the layer designation unit, and a composite display unit which generates a composite image by projecting the morbid portions respectively detected from the layers by the morbid portion acquisition unit onto a predetermined two-dimensional image, and displays the composite image.

An image processing apparatus for processing a tomogram of an eye fundus, the apparatus comprising: a memory; and a processor that is in communication with the memory, the processor configured to function as units comprising: (a) a feature acquisition unit configured to acquire anatomical features of the tomogram; (b) a designation unit configured to designate a first layer and a second layer, for detecting morbid portions corresponding to a predetermined disease, from a plurality of layers specified by the anatomical features acquired by said feature acquisition unit; (c) a morbid portion acquisition unit configured to detect primary morbid portions from the first layer and secondary morbid portions from the second layer, the primary morbid portions and the secondary morbid portions being corresponded to the predetermined disease; (d) a relevance determination unit configured to determine an existence or absence of relevance between of primary morbid portions and the secondary morbid portions detected by said morbid portion acquisition unit; (e) a priority determination unit configured to determine treatment priority levels for the primary morbid portions based on the secondary morbid portions; (f) a generation unit configured to generate a composite image by projecting the primary morbid portions and the secondary morbid portions detected by said morbid portion acquisition unit onto a predetermined two-dimensional image; and (g) a display control unit configured to control a display unit to display the treatment priority levels determined by said priority determination unit and the composite image generated by said generation unit in a form which allows identification of primary morbid portions and secondary morbid portions in which the relevance is determined to exist by said relevance determination unit and primary morbid portions and secondary morbid portions in which the relevance is determined to be absent by said relevance determination unit.
