Disclosed is a composite for a negative electrode material of a secondary battery. The composite is formed in powder comprising: silicon metal powder; a silicon oxide layer formed on a surface of the silicon metal powder; a carbon film coated on a surface of the silicon oxide layer. The silicon oxide layer is silicon oxide represented by SiO_x, wherein x in the oxygen content (x) is preferably greater than 0.8 and less than 1.7.
