659,321. Discharge lamps. SOC. ANON. POUR LES APPLICATIONS DE L'ELECTRICITE ET DES GAZ RARES-ETABLISSEMENTS CLAUDE-PAZ ET SILVA. Feb. 1, 1949, No. 2755. Convention date, Feb. 13, 1948. [Class 39 (i)] A discharge tube, particularly a fluorescent lamp having a rarefied gas and metallic vapour filling and supplied with direct current, is freed from the effect of cataphoresis, i.e. the non- emission of light at the anode end of the tube, by a resistance heater situated at the cathode end and also serving as a ballast connected in the lamp circuit. A tubular fluorescent lamp 3 with electrodes 10, 11 is supported in a holder 6 enclosing a resistance heater 7 adjacent holes 9. The resistance 7 extends from the cathode end for a distance at least a tenth of that between the electrodes 10, 11 but terminates at a distance from the anode end equal to at least five times and, preferably, ten times, the tube diameter. Actual dimensions and ratings of the tube are given in the Specification. |
