[Class 64(i)] [Also in Group X] In a gas-fired air heater, e.g. for central or other heating, combustion products flow from a combustion chamber 10 housing one or more gas burners 11, through one or more slots or apertures in a plate or diaphragm 13, to a superposed air-heating chamber 12 having one or more air inlet apertures 15, each slot or aperture having a shield or funnel 14 located over or around it in the chamber 12, and 'air is drawn by suction upwardly through the chamber 12 and is mixed therein with the combustion products. The shields may be of narrow rectangular, elliptical, or stream-lined section, and may decrease in width upwardly, and may have a series of small holes. In the form shown, the suction is provided by four fans 16 mounted on a common shaft. The fans discharge into guide channels which may discharge the air horizontally. Alternatively, the air heating chamber may be connected to a system of pipes in which a fan maintains suction.</p> |
