Systems and methods for establishing multiple radio connections

A method for establishing multiple radio connections by a user equipment (UE) is described. The method includes establishing a primary radio connection between the UE and a first point on an Evolved Universal Terrestrial Radio Access Network (E-UTRAN). The method also includes receiving a connection control message for a second radio connection with a second point on the E-UTRAN. The method also includes performing a random access procedure for the secondary radio connection in response to receiving the connection control message.

1. A method performed by a user equipment (UE), comprising:
receiving a connection control message for an establishment of a second set of one or more cells for dual connectivity, wherein a first set of cell(s) and the second set of cell(s) are configured for the dual connectivity, a first medium access control (MAC) entity corresponds to the first set of cell(s) and a second MAC entity corresponds to the second set of cell(s), the connection control message is included in a radio resource control (RRC) connection reconfiguration message and directs the UE to perform a random access procedure for a cell of the second set of one or more cells; and performing a random access procedure for a cell of the second set of one or more cells in response to receiving the RRC connection reconfiguration message.
