Systems, methods, and devices for accessing a service of a wireless carrier network through a wireless local area network (WLAN) are described. A method includes selecting one or more traffic management parameters associated with the WLAN based at least in part on one or more quality of service (QoS) parameters associated with the service of the wireless carrier network being accessed. The method further includes transmitting packets over the WLAN using the selected one or more traffic management parameters associated with the WLAN when a user equipment accesses the service of the wireless carrier network through the WLAN. The user equipment enforces the selected one or more traffic management parameters for communications to the wireless carrier network. An access point enforces the selected one or more traffic management parameters for communications to the user equipment.

1. A method for accessing a service of a wireless carrier network through a wireless local area network (WLAN), the method comprising:
receiving, by an access point from a user equipment, a request to establish a connection to access the service of the wireless carrier network through the WLAN; receiving, by the access point, a bearer setup request from a gateway, wherein the bearer setup request comprises one or more QoS parameters associated with the service of the wireless carrier network being accessed and a traffic flow template; mapping, by the access point, the one or more QoS parameters to one or more traffic management parameters, wherein the one or more traffic management parameters comprise one or more access categories; transmitting a bearer configuration message to the user equipment, wherein the bearer configuration message comprises the one or more access categories; transmitting packets over the WLAN using the selected one or more traffic management parameters associated with the WLAN in response to receiving the request to establish the connection to access the service of the wireless carrier network through the WLAN; filtering packets to be transmitted based on the traffic flow template; and enforcing the selected one or more traffic management parameters for communications to the user equipment over a radio link.
