PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical signal relay device and a communication control method that can extend the communication limit distance of an optical communication system by accurately controlling the level of an optical signal to be transmitted in optical signal relay devices that amplify a received optical signal and transmit it.SOLUTION: An optical signal relay device that amplifies a received optical signal and transmits it comprises: a semiconductor optical amplifier that receives the optical signal and amplifies it; and a control unit that changes the magnitude of drive current supplied to the semiconductor optical amplifier, and thereby controls the gain or output of the semiconductor optical amplifier. The control unit adjusts the magnitude of the drive current on the basis of relation between the drive current and the strength of ASE of the semiconductor optical amplifier, and relation between the strength of the optical signal received by the semiconductor optical amplifier and the strength of ASE of the semiconductor optical amplifier.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3 |
