PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an economically advantageous exhaust gas treatment apparatus and a method where mercury in an exhaust gas is effectively adsorbed and removed by activated carbon and the activated carbon can be efficiently used with a simple configuration.SOLUTION: An exhaust gas treatment apparatus comprises: a dust collector 4 being disposed in an exhaust gas flue 2 exhausting an exhaust gas containing mercury discharged from a furnace 1 and collecting dust contained in the exhaust gas; an activated carbon feeding device 6 feeding the activated carbon into the exhaust gas flue 2 at the wake flow position of the dust collector 4; an activated carbon collector 5 being disposed in the exhaust gas flue 2 and collecting the activated carbon contained in the exhaust gas with the activated carbon; and a recovered activated carbon feeding device 7 feeding at least a part of the collected activated carbon at the activated carbon collector 5 into the exhaust gas flue 2 at the wake flow position of the dust collector.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
