PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain display quality of an image while calibrating projected laser light by preventing generation of stray light when a laser is emitted during a blanking period.SOLUTION: A light beam emitted by light beam emission means is scanned over a scanning area by scanning means. The scanning area includes an imaging area for projecting an image and a non-imaging area. Control means controls the scanning means such that a light beam corresponding to an image is emitted while scanning the imaging area and a reference beam is emitted while scanning the non-imaging area. At least a portion of the reference beam is received by a photosensitive element which outputs a signal indicative of intensity of the received light to correction means. The correction means corrects the light beam emitted by the light beam emission means based on the signal from the photosensitive element. The control means changes the intensity of the reference beam in accordance with brightness of an image produced in the imaging area.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
