PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable valve mechanism for an internal combustion engine, the mechanism enabling a quick switching of a lock mechanism by stopping supplying oil.SOLUTION: A variable valve mechanism, for use in switching over locking and unlocking of a lock mechanism 39 in accordance with presence of supplying of oil to a supply passage 16, includes a relief valve 37, and a relief passage 34 with passage resistance smaller than in the supply passage 16. Further, the relief passage 34 is connected to a hydraulic passage 21. When oil is supplied to the supply passage 16, the relief valve 37 allows the supply passage 16 to communicate with the hydraulic passage 21 and shuts the communication between the hydraulic passage 21 and relief passage 34. Meanwhile, when the oil supply to the supply passage 16 is stopped, the relief valve 37 shuts the communication between the supply passage 16 and hydraulic passage 21, and allows the hydraulic passage 21 to communicate with the relief passage 34.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4 |
