PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cylinder injection type internal combustion engine capable of forming an air layer which exhibits sufficient heat insulation performance around an air-fuel mixture.SOLUTION: A cylinder injection type internal combustion engine includes a fuel injection valve 36 for directly injecting fuel into a combustion chamber 23, an air injection valve 37 for directly injecting air into the combustion chamber, and an ignition device 35 for igniting the fuel. The ignition device is disposed in the center of the combustion chamber. The fuel injection valve and the air injection valve are disposed to be opposed with each other while having a combustion chamber center axis C23 therebetween. An angle between an injection main axial direction Df of the fuel injected from the fuel injection valve and an injection main axial direction Da of the air injected from the air injection valve is 90° or more and 180° or less. An air mass A injected from the air injection valve collides with a fuel spray F injected from the fuel injection valve in a prescribed region S23 in the center of the combustion chamber. The air is injected from the air injection valve so that an outer peripheral edge of a head portion of the air mass in collision with the fuel spray is on the outside of an outer peripheral edge of a head portion of the fuel spray in collision with the air mass.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4 |
