PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection optical system that has sufficiently reduced a projection distance, achieves high luminance, and provides high performance with a reduced size.SOLUTION: A projection optical system includes a dioptric system RR that comprises a plurality of optical elements including an aperture diaphragm AD and a plurality of lenses, and a reflection optical system RL that includes a folded plane mirror M1 and a free-form surface concave mirror M2 sequentially arranged between the dioptric system RR and a screen SC. The projection optical system forms one intermediate image between an image display element and the reflection optical system RL, and includes an optical axis A that is shared by the plurality of axially-symmetric lenses in the dioptric system RR; when an axis in a surface including a light beam emitted from the center of the image display element and passing through the center of the aperture diaphragm AD, the axis being orthogonal to the optical axis A is Y-axis, a part of the optical elements B in the dioptric system RR is eccentric in a direction parallel to the Y-axis; an image forming part Lv of the image display element intersects with the optical axis A.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
