PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle occupant protection device which enables reduction of a lap belt load compared to a conventional vehicle occupant protection device.SOLUTION: In the vehicle occupant protection device, deformation of an energy absorption plate 30 is restricted by a lock mechanism during normal use. When a waist part of an occupant is moved a predetermined distance to the front side during a collision, the lock mechanism restricting the deformation is released to allow deformation of the energy absorption plate 30. Then, the energy absorption plate 30 is plastically deformed in conjunction with movement of the waist part of the occupant to absorb energy. As a result, the vehicle occupant protection device reduces a lap belt load compared to a conventional vehicle occupant protection device.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4 |
