PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermosetting composition having photo-aligning property, from which an alignment layer having an excellent liquid crystal aligning ability and excellent adhesiveness to a liquid crystal layer can be formed, and an alignment layer, a substrate with an alignment layer, and a retardation plate using the above composition.SOLUTION: The thermosetting composition having photo-aligning property comprises: a copolymer having a photo-aligning structural unit represented by formula (1) below and a thermal crosslinkable structural unit; and a photo-aligning compound having a second photo-aligning group and an ethylenically unsaturated double bond group. In formula (1), X represents a first photo-aligning group; Lrepresents a divalent connecting group or a single bond; Rrepresents a hydrogen atom or a monovalent organic group; and k represents 1 to 5.SELECTED DRAWING: None
