The station has a scale (30) for determining weights of postal items. A data file (93) contains a correlation between product categories of postal items and postal charges, so that a determined postal charge for one of the postal items is supplied from a measuring module (52) of a franking unit (60). The module includes a unit for signing of data sets and a storage module for storing signed data sets in a measured value memory (55). The data sets include measured values of the scale and dimension measuring devices (40), corrected measured values and determined product categories. An independent claim is also included for a method for franking of postal items in a delivery station.
