The present invention relates to a system and method for monitoring a sleep pattern and, particularly, to a system and method for monitoring a sleep pattern to monitor the movement of an eyeball by using infrared rays. The present invention can provide a low priced sleep pattern measurement device which certainly measures the movement of the eyeball and is easily carried by comprising: an infrared sensor unit to sense the movement of the eyeball by using the infrared rays during sleeping; an eyeball movement signal processing unit to process a movement signal of the eyeball sensed in the infrared sensor unit; and an interface unit to transmit the movement signal of the eyeball processed in the eyeball movement signal processing unit.
