PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an astrocyte differentiation inducer which induce differentiation of a neural stem cell at a high rate, and a glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) expression inducer.SOLUTION: There is provided an astrocyte differentiation inducer that induces differentiation of a neural stem cell into astrocyte at a high rate, which contains piceatannol being a type of a stilbene compound of polyphenol having a stilbene skeleton as an active ingredient. Further, there is also provided a GFAP expression inducer that induces expression of GFAP in the neural stem cell at high-rate, which contains piceatannol as an active ingredient. Piceatannol may be a chemical synthetic product or may be derived from a natural material such as a plant.SELECTED DRAWING: None
