A kneading machine (2) equipped with: a pair of rotors (44) disposed with a gap (SP2) therebetween; a casing (45) in which are formed a chamber (C2) in which the pair of rotors (44) are disposed, an inlet port (51) for introducing a material to be kneaded (W) into the chamber (C2), and an outlet port (52) from which the material that has been kneaded (W) is discharged from the chamber (C2); a sensor (80) disposed above the pair of rotors (44) for detecting the position of the material being kneaded (W) or fluctuations in pressure; and a control unit (82) for controlling the rotation of the pair of rotors (44) on the basis of the detection results of the senor (80).
