A filter cartridge (1) for a machine for preparing beverages, comprising a main body (10) for housing filter material for treating a liquid (W), said main body (10) comprising a main inlet (12) and an outlet (14), a first chamber (11) containing at least one first filter material (F1), a second chamber (13) in fluid communication with the first chamber (11) containing at least one second ion exchange filter material (F2), a main filtration path (15a) extending between the main inlet (12) and the outlet (14) through the first chamber (11) and subsequently through the second chamber (13). The cartridge (1) further comprises an auxiliary inlet (19) which is separate from and independent of the main inlet (12) for admitting liquid to be treated (W) and positioned in such a way as to define an auxiliary filtration path (15b) which is at least partly separate from the main filtration path (15a) and runs between the auxiliary inlet (19) and the outlet (14) without passing through the first chamber (11). |
