PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide efficient and convenient storage systems and methods.SOLUTION: In one embodiment, a storage system 100 includes a plurality of storage nodes 120, 130 and 140 and a master controller 110. The storage nodes store information. The storage nodes 120, 130 and 140 include an upstream communication buffer 160 which is locally controlled at the storage nodes 120, 130 and 140 to facilitate resolution of conflicts in upstream communications. The master controller 110 controls a flow of traffic to the nodes 120, 130 and 140 on the basis of constraints of the upstream communication buffer. In one embodiment, communication between the master controller 110 and the nodes 120, 130 and 140 has a determined maximum latency. The storage nodes 120, 130 and 140 can be coupled to the master controller 110 in accordance with a chain memory configuration.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
