664,183. Folding and sealing envelopes &c. IRVINE, G. J. Feb. 9, 1950 [Feb. 9, 1949], No. 3507/49. Class 100 (i). [Also in Groups XV and XVII] In a machine for folding and sealing envelopes, tickets, cards &c. each workpiece as it is fed forward is folded along one centre line and is then sealed first along its two opposite open sides and then along its third open side. Each workpiece A is fed manually or automatically onto a platform 3 having a slot 12 over which its centre line is registered by a bar 13, and is pushed by a reciprocating blade 11 through the slot and between friction plates. A shaft 4 and bevel gears 5 transfer the drive from a motor 9 to the folding blade crank shaft 8; a cam 19 operates a spring- loaded follower 17 which through a link 14 moves the bar 13 so that it allows the centre of the workpiece A to overshoot the slot 12 and then returns it to correct registration for folding; the pins 15, 18 are adjustably fixed in slots in the link 14 to accommodate different sized workpieces. |
