A rope shovel includes a base including (a) a hoist drum for paying out and reeling in a hoist rope and (b) a boom including a lower end coupled to the base and an upper end opposite the lower end, with the hoist rope extending over the upper end of the boom. The rope shovel also includes a boom attachment moveably coupled to the boom, the boom attachment including a first end and a second end, and an excavating member pivotably coupled to the second end of the boom attachment.
