A display device with touch detection comprising: a plurality of display elements; a plurality of common electrodes arranged in parallel and that extend in first direction; a plurality of detection electrodes arranged in parallel and that extend in a direction across the first direction; a plurality of signal lines connected to the plurality of display elements, respectively, and to which a display signal is applied; a detection circuit configured to detect an external proximity object based on a touch detection signal which is output from the detection electrodes, a scan driving unit configured to drive the common electrodes with a drive signal, wherein the detection circuit is configured to sample a first voltage of the touch detection signal at a first timing before a starting of transition of the drive signal, and sample a second voltage of the touch detection signal at a second timing after the starting of transition of the drive signal, the second voltage being different from the first voltage, wherein detection of the external proximity object is performed on the basis of the deference between the first voltage of the touch detection signal sampled at the first timing and the second voltage of the touch detection signal sampled at the second timing, and wherein the display signal is not substantially changed during the period between the first timing and the second timing.
