The invention relates to a method for controlling a vehicle-external online service (15, 16) by means of an operator control device (9) of a motor vehicle (1), having the steps of: ascertaining a user input performed by a user on the operator control device (9) and selecting one of multiple service functions (17, 18) of the online service (15, 16) on the basis of the user input. This selection capability is intended to be matched to the vehicle-type-dependent operator control concept of the motor vehicle (1). The operator control elements (13, 14, 19) available on the operator control device (9) are ascertained and converter data (29) that contain a control specification (G, M) for controlling the selection of the service function (17, 18) on the basis of operating signals (S) from the ascertained operator control elements (13, 14, 19) are provided. The service function (17, 18) is then selected on the basis of the operator control element (13, 14, 19) operated during the user input and on the basis of the converter data (29). |
