HYDROPHILIC COATINGS FORMED BY ATMOSPHERIC CO2 REACTION

摘要

Hydrophilic coating compositions and methods to make and use the compositions are disclosed. The compositions include a polymer comprising guanidinyl, amidinyl, hydroxyalkylaminoalkyl, or dihydroxyalkylamino alkyl functional groups. The functional groups react with atmospheric CO2 to form ionic or polyelectrolytic groups, thus transforming a coated surface from hydrophobic to hydrophilic upon exposure to CO2.

1. A coating composition comprising:
a polymer comprising at least one functional group selected from the group consisting of guanidinyl, amidinyl, hydroxyalkylaminoalkyl and dihydroxyalkylamino alkyl, wherein the at least one functional group on a surface of the polymer is configured to react with carbon dioxide to form a hydrophilic polymer coating.
