A quality evaluation method has an acquisition step for acquiring spectral data for transmitted light or diffusely reflected light from a cell mass through the irradiation of measurement light including near-infrared light onto the cell mass and an evaluation step for evaluating the quality of the cell mass on the basis of the spectral data for the cell mass acquired in the acquisition step.
