Disclosed is a contents processing device. The contents processing device comprises: a receiving unit receiving contents; an audio processing unit decoding audio data included in the contents to extract an audio signal from the decoded audio data; a processor determining a feature section in the audio signal based on a rate at which music is occupied in the audio signal, and detecting a segment including the feature section; and a communication unit transmitting the segment to a music recognition server. The size of the segment is variably determined within a preset threshold range. To recognize music, a segment having a variable size in an audio signal included in the contents is generated and transmitted.
