PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To smoothly perform the speed control of focus drive by improving the accuracy of a focusing degree used, when a subject has low illuminance and low contrast.SOLUTION: An imaging apparatus includes an imaging part which images the subject, an evaluation calculation part which calculates a contrast evaluation value from an imaging signal generated from the focus detection area of the imaging part, a focus adjustment part which performs focus adjustment on the basis of the contrast evaluation value, a first focusing degree calculation part which calculates a first focusing degree indicating a focus state by using the imaging signal of a whole focus detection area, a second focusing degree calculation part which calculates a second focusing degree indicating the focus state by using the imaging signal for each row of the focus detection area, a selection part which selects the first or second focusing degree according to the condition of the subject, and a control part which controls the speed of the focus adjustment by the focus adjustment part on the basis of the first or second focusing degree selected by the selection part.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 7 |
