The invention relates to a method for detecting a battery (5) acting inside a voltage supply system (1) of a motor vehicle, wherein a generator (2) generates an electrical AC voltage and this AC voltage is rectified by a rectifier (3), and the rectified voltage (6) is measured and analysed by a control unit (7), wherein the absence of a battery (5) acting in the voltage supply system (1) is diagnosed when analysing oscillation properties of the voltage (6) outside a tolerance range. The invention also relates to an associated voltage supply system (1).
