Provided are: a low-cost, high-performance AEI type zeolite which does not use expensive Y type zeolites as a feedstock and does not use dangerous hydrofluoric acid; and a method for producing an AEI type zeolite having a Si/Al ratio of 6.5 or less. The method for producing an AEI type zeolite comprises preparing a mixture including a silicon atom feedstock, an aluminum atom feedstock, an alkali metal atom feedstock, an organic structure directing agent, and water, and producing an AEI type zeolite having a Si/Al ratio of 50 or less by hydrothermal synthesis of the obtained mixture. The method is characterized by using, as the aluminum atom feedstock, a compound containing aluminum having a Si content rate of 20 weight% or less, and by including, in the mixture, a zeolite having a framework density of 14T/1000Å3 or more in an amount of 0.1 weight% or more with respect to SiO2 when all of the Si in the mixture is SiO2. |
