A metal band stabilizer according to an aspect of the present invention is equipped with a displacement measurement unit, a control unit, and an electromagnetic unit. The displacement measurement unit measures the displacement of a metal band in a noncontact manner during travel. The control unit generates a vibration suppression signal for controlling suppression of the vibrations of the metal band and a position correction signal for controlling the position correction of the metal band, on the basis of the metal band displacement measurement signal from the displacement measurement unit. The electromagnetic unit has: a vibration suppression coil that generates a first magnetic force on the basis of the vibration suppression signal; a position correction coil that generates a second magnetic force on the basis of the position correction signal; and a core around which the vibration suppression coil and the position correction coil are concentrically wound, said core leading the first magnetic force and the second magnetic force to the metal band. The number of turns of the position correction coil is in the range of two to five times that of the vibration suppression coil. The electromagnetic unit suppresses the vibrations of the metal band using the first magnetic force and corrects the position of the metal band using the second magnetic force. |
