The invention relates to a device (100) for determining a position of a motion element, which is arranged in such a way that the motion element can be moved between a first position and a second position. The at least one light source (102) and the at least one sensing apparatus (104) are arranged in such a way that the at least one light source and the at least one sensing apparatus are stationary in relation to each other, wherein the position-indicating apparatus (106) can be or is fastened to the motion element. The at least one light source (102) is designed to emit the optical signal having a beam path (110) in which the position-indicating apparatus (106) can be arranged.
