PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine which can alleviate a burden of an operator and a load of a starter even if startability at a low temperature is unfavorable by repeating, at timing not affecting the starter, a series of engine start operations for trying cranking by making a pinion engaged with a ring gear after raising a temperature in a combustion chamber by lighting a glow plug after the operator presses down an engine start switch, and carrying electricity to the starter, and a control method of the internal combustion engine.SOLUTION: After receiving a signal which indicates that an engine start switch is turned on, cranking control is performed succeeding to glow lighting control for lighting a glow lamp for a lighting continuation time, when an engine start is successful, an engine is transited to a normal operation by finishing the cranking control, and when the engine start is unsuccessful, the combination control of the glow lighting control and the cranking control is repeated once again after the lapse of a starter protection time.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
