GROUND IMPROVEMENT METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ground improvement method, which uses a steel slag as a ground improvement material and can suppresses an expansion of the steel slag for a long period and obtain high ground improvement effect.SOLUTION: A steel slag as a ground improvement material is mixed in a shirasu composing a ground at a rate of 60 vol% or less to a total sum of the shirasu and the steel slag. The shirasu has an amorphous glass structure containing SiOand AlOas main components. When the steel slag as the improvement material is mixed with the shirasu, free CaO and free MgO contained in the steel slag cure through a hydration reaction with glassy SiOand AlOin the shirasu and high bearing capacity is given to the ground. High expansion suppression effect can be obtained due to following reasons: (i) free CaO and free MgO contained in the steel slag are consumed in hydration reaction with the shirasu; (ii) a rigid layer with high bearing capacity is formed in the ground by hydration reaction and the layer suppresses the expansion.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 7
