The present invention suggests an apparatus and a method for controlling updating software of an audio video navigation (AVN) system for a vehicle, capable of determining if updated software is normally run, and recovering the software to a previously normal state if the updated software is not determined as being normally run. According to the present invention, the apparatus for controlling the updating the software of the AVN system for the vehicle includes: a software running determining unit which, if software is updated in the AVN system for the vehicle, determines whether or not the updated software is normally run; an error message storing unit which stores information on the abnormally running of the software as metadata if the updated software is not determined as being normally run; a software recovering unit which recovers the updated software to previously normally run software if the updated software is not determined as being normally run; and an AVN system controlling unit which controls the operation of the AVN system based on the previously normally run software. |
