The invention relates to a system and a method for tele-assistance by means of a smart television. The system comprises: a smart television (2) with a video camera (20), a microphone (22) and an IP connectivity module (26) for connecting to the Internet (3); a control server (4) for the remote management, via the Internet (3), of the channels available on the smart television (2), selected from traditional television channels (12), contact people (11) and video assistance services (9); and a video server (5) for managing the video communication between the smart television (2) and the contact people (11) or the video assistance services (9). With the simplicity of use of a conventional television, it allows communication with tele-assistance services, friends and family, by means of video call via the television, in a simple and intuitive manner.
