<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic document transport device which can be opened and closed without deforming a document presser plate even if the device is formed to be thin. <P>SOLUTION: In an automatic document transport device 300 which is disposed on an image forming device body 100, includes a document presser plate 380 and can be opened and closed with an inner part as a center, a front side case 302 for covering a document placing section 310, a document paper discharge section 320 and a document transport device 330 is formed in such a way that a front side from the document presser plate 380 projects to form a knob 350. The document placing section 310 covers a document placing stand 311 installed in a case 301 to be dented by a lid member 312 so that it can be opened/closed, opens the lid member 312 to make it in an extension state and holds a document D.
