Disclosed is a fan comprising a body having an inlet and a nozzle connected to the body. The nozzle includes an interior passage and at least one outlet. The interior passage extends about an opening through which air is drawn by air emitted from the outlet. The body includes a duct 60 having an inlet 62, an outlet 64, an impeller 70 for drawing air through the duct and a motor 94 for driving the impeller. An annular guide member 150 extends about the duct for guiding air from the inlet of the body to the inlet of the duct and defines with the duct an annular noise suppression cavity 156. The duct comprises an inner wall 95 and an outer wall 67 extending about the inner wall. A portion 98 of the inner wall is frusto-conical in shape, tapering towards the outlet of the duct, perforated and lined internally with sound-absorbing material. |
