[Class 18] Sheet material such as paper or an endless linen towel passes from a roll C through the bite of a pressure roller 8 and feed roller 6 and out through the opening 16. A spring 14 attached to the roller 6 at 15 tends to rotate the roller in the direction of the arrows A, B and thereby feed out the sheet, but is normally prevented from doing so by the engagement of a catch 23 with a shoulder 20 on a detent plate 19 fast with the roller 6. The catch 23 is fixed to a frame 22 pivoted at 21 and urged towards the detent plate by a spring 24. To the frame 22 is pivoted a pawl 25 which engages with the teeth of a ratchet wheel 17 also fast with the roller 6. When the roller 6 is manually rocked anticlockwise, Fig. 1, by means of an exterior knob, the pawl 25 (and hence the catch 23) is pushed to the left and the spring 14 pulls the roller 6 around to dead centre position, partly feeding out the sheet. The frame 22 is held in the " left " position, Fig. 1, by a strut 26 pivoted thereon ; when the strut moves to the left the forked end thereof drops from the position shown and a toothed part 31 thereon engages with a pinion 32 fixed on the shaft of the roller 6. The user now pulls the sheet completely out, thus (1) rotating the roller 6 and pinion 32 so that the strut moves upwards, the pinion drops into the recess E in the strut, the frame 22 moves to the right and the roller 6 is re-locked, and (2) resetting the spring 14. Means for indicating exhaustion of sheet material comprises a feeler 35 resting on the roll C, pivoted at 36 on the cabinet and moving, via a link 37, an indicator 38 visible through a slot in the casing ; alternatively, or in addition, a window may be provided in the casing. To position the end of the sheet, the pressure roll 8, which is carried between spring (13) -pressed arms 9, is pushed away from roller 6 by means of a link 12 and trigger-plate 10, 11. A saw or knife edge may be positioned at or about the slot 16. The surface of the roller 6 is grooved circumferentially and friction-surfaced. |
