<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-voltage power supply device capable of accurately detecting an amount of load current flowing to a load according to an output voltage supplied to the load from a transformer without excessive voltage output by the transformer. <P>SOLUTION: A high-voltage power supply device 1 comprises: a transformer 4 for supplying an output voltage obtained by boosting an input voltage to a load 9; a transistor (switching element) 7 which is connected to an output terminal of the transformer 4 and which cuts loop current flowing between the transformer 4 and the load 9; and bleeder resistor elements (switching control means) 6 one of which is connected to an output terminal of the transformer 4 and the other of which is connected to the transformer 7 and which switch the transistor 7 from off-state to on-state when the transformer 4 starts supplying a boosted output voltage to the load 9.
