Method for protecting stored multimedia content in a home network

The method involves transmitting a key to a player selected among players (156). The key transmitting step is realized by transmitting a cryptogram to a recorder through a home network in response to a playing request of a stored multimedia content, where the cryptogram is obtained by encrypting a local key with the key transmitted to the player selected among the players. A message containing the cryptogram and a protection mode indicator is received by the recorder when recording the content using control words contained in the message.
