A surgical snare is provided which comprises a flexible actuator shaft 124, including an outer sleeve 126 and an inner push rod 128 that is mounted within, and slidable relative to, the outer sleeve 126, as well as an end cap 130 mounted at a distal end of the outer sleeve and a nibless (or kinkless) loop of wire 112 connected to the distal end of the inner push rod 128; wherein the end cap includes a passageway for receiving the nibless loop of wire 112, whereby the inner push rod 128 is operable to retract the loop of wire 112 into the end cap 130, and wherein the end cap 130 includes a reaction surface at its distal end, against with the nibless loop of wire 112 bears when fully retracted into the cap. In a second embodiment a snare is provided without the reaction surface on the distal end of the end cap 130, instead including a nibless loop of wire 112 comprising a length of nitinol. |
